Winter Solstice
Depending on which hemisphere you live in
December 21st is the
Winter Solstice
(the shortest day of the year) or
the Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year).
Summer Solstice

December is the twelfth and last month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days.

December begins (astrologically) with the sun in the sign of Sagittarius and ends in the sign of Capricorn. Astronomically speaking, the sun begins in the constellation of Ophiuchus, which is the only zodiacal constellation that is not counted as an astrological sign, and ends in the constellation of Sagittarius.

The name is from the Latin decem for "ten".*

Holiday celebrations are wonderful opportunities for children to learn about the traditions that are cherished parts of people's lives all over the world. Please remember that the stories are just a simplified version of each celebration. As a parent the choice of what holidays to celebrate is yours, but we hope that a sense of humour blended with a little knowledge will help us all make peace in this world by understanding our differences.

Our monthly Preschool Theme based program with hands-on learning activities promotes visual perception, fine motor and gross motor development.
